For a sustainable future we have to act responsibly - and that includes sport. THW Kiel is aware of this and is taking on this responsibility: because the club is more than just handball. As the sporting figurehead of Kiel and Schleswig-Holstein, THW has a role model function and therefore wants to make a contribution and initiate change. Sporting success and a respectful approach to nature and society go hand in hand.
Like handball, sustainable development requires persistence, team spirit and creativity. THW Kiel recognises that they must move forward step by step, courageously and innovatively, while constantly learning, seeking open dialogue and working with partners.
The club wants to make a positive impact and takes responsible decisions in the interests of the planet, the people and their economic stability. For the club, positive impact means reducing the negative aspects of their sporting activities and increasing the social benefit in clearly defined fields of action, even beyond the sporting endeavors.
To this end, THW Kiel uses its supra-regional appeal and acts as a regional link for initiatives and measures with a positive social and ecological impact. Success in sport remains the basic prerequisite for their actions.
The sea is at the doorstep, Kiel is the home port. That is why protecting the coasts and the Baltic Sea in the region is particularly important to THW Kiel. In order to preserve them for future (handball) generations, the club is committed to three key areas: coastal protection, coastal habitat and climate protection. THW Kiel is guided by the United Nations' sustainability goals and the goals of the UN Decade of the Ocean.
