Coinbase becomes premium partner of Borussia Dortmund
Coinbase, the global crypto platform, will become a Premium Partner of Bundesliga football club and eight-time German champion Borussia Dortmund. "We are looking forward to the cooperation with BVB. Coinbase with its crypto platform and Borussia Dortmund in the sporting arena both stand for trust and responsibility,” said Daniel Seifert, Vice-President and Regional Managing Director, EMEA and Spokesperson for Germany.
According to Coinbase, the sponsorship goes far beyond the pitch, as Coinbase provided a crypto education session to BVB employees across a range of departments. Additionally, the Coinbase brand will not only be seen through perimeter advertising in Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park, but also through digital advertising and activations for and with BVB fans on social media and digital channels. Coinbase will bring fans closer to the black + yellow through a hospitality sweepstakes set to launch in February, including the chance to win a matchday box to the Union Berlin match in April and other prizes.
Since its founding in 2012, Coinbase has built a reliable and intuitive platform with more than 108 million verified users worldwide, offering easy access to a wide range of crypto products. Coinbase offers products for private investors, active traders, companies and institutional investors. In addition, more than 14,500 institutions and over 185,000 partners in more than 100 countries rely on Coinbase. In 2021, Coinbase received licenses for crypto custody and proprietary trading - limited to crypto assets and units of account - by the German Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). This regulation is the first of its kind in Europe and Coinbase Germany is the first company in Germany to be granted this license.
"The crypto world offers exciting opportunities, and it is important for us to work with a trustworthy partner in this promising field."
Carsten Cramer, BVB Managing Director
Carsten Cramer emphasizes: "The granting of the license by the 'BaFin' is the clear signal for us as BVB to now have such a partner at our side in a segment that is still very new and often unclear to non-insiders. We are therefore delighted to partner with Coinbase as the responsible, secure and standards-compliant global platform for crypto trading."
The partnership was brokered by BVB's marketing partner SPORTFIVE. Thomas Joos, Executive Director at SPORTFIVE's Borussia Dortmund team, adds: "It was important for us to find a trustworthy partner that fits in with Borussia Dortmund's values. We have succeeded in doing so with Coinbase. The partnership offers Coinbase the opportunity to bring the crypto world closer to BVB fans in a clear and transparent way."
